In an extraordinary travel experience, content creator Divya Fofani embarked on a unique pilgrimage from Mumbai to Mahakumbh without spending a single rupee. Relying entirely on the generosity of strangers, Fofani’s journey highlights the deep-rooted spirit of kindness and unity in India.
An Unforgettable Journey of Faith
Starting on February 12 from Mumbai, Fofani’s adventure concluded two days later in Prayagraj, where he took the holy dip at the Maha Kumbh. Sharing his experience on Instagram, he described it as a “remarkable journey of faith, adventure, and human kindness.” His post has since gone viral, amassing over 36,000 likes and inspiring thousands.
“This journey reaffirmed my faith in humanity. Indians go out of their way to help fellow travelers, especially those embarking on spiritual pilgrimages. It was an eye-opening experience that strengthened my belief in unity and compassion,” Fofani said.
Hitchhiking Across 1,500 km
With only a placard that read “lift” in hand, Fofani relied on the goodwill of strangers, hitchhiking on bikes, scooters, cars, and even trucks. His route took him from Mumbai’s Thane suburb to Nagpur, covering nearly half of his 1,500 km journey.
The second phase, from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, was relatively smooth, with numerous people extending their support. However, the final stretch—Jabalpur to Prayagraj—proved to be the most challenging.
“Trucks were not permitted on the Jabalpur to Prayagraj route, making it difficult to find transport. Despite this, the unwavering support of locals helped me reach my destination,” he shared.
