Popular YouTuber-turned-actor Bhuvan Bam is all set to make a powerful leap into the world of historical storytelling with his most intense role yet. The internet sensation, known for his comedic sketches and emotional drama in Taaza Khabar, will now portray the iconic Indian revolutionary Rash Behari Bose in Nikkhil Advani’s upcoming web series.
The untitled historical drama will dive deep into India’s pre-independence struggle, spotlighting the often-overlooked heroes of the freedom movement. After the success of Rocket Boys and Freedom at Midnight, Advani is ready to bring another high-stakes period story to life, and this time, it centers around Bengal’s revolutionary firebrand – Rash Behari Bose.
Bhuvan Bam’s Transformation: From Internet Star to Revolutionary Icon
Sources close to the production revealed that Bhuvan Bam has already begun filming for the role. To embody the look of the early 1900s revolutionary, he has shaved off his signature moustache and adopted a completely new demeanor for the part. The show is currently being shot on a specially constructed vintage Bengal set on Madh Island in Mumbai.
A source told India Today Digital, “Bhuvan is diving deep into the role of Rash Behari Bose. It’s a physically and emotionally demanding part, and he’s completely committed to delivering an unforgettable performance. This project will show a side of Bhuvan that audiences have never seen before.”
Joining Bhuvan in the cast is Rohit Saraf, who plays Sachindra Nath Sanyal, Bose’s close confidant and a fierce revolutionary in his own right. Interestingly, while Bhuvan shaved for authenticity, Saraf has grown a moustache for his role. Rising star Pratibha Ranta, known for Laapataa Ladies, plays Sanyal’s wife in the series.
Who Was Rash Behari Bose?
Born in 1886 in Bengal, Rash Behari Bose was a pioneer in the revolutionary movement against British colonial rule. After being inspired by stories from his grandfather and teacher, Bose became a key figure in several major uprisings, including the 1912 Delhi Conspiracy Case. He later formed the Indian National Army (INA) and was instrumental in founding the Azad Hind movement, before handing over leadership to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
Rash Behari Bose spent his final years in Japan, where he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun by the Japanese government. He died of tuberculosis in 1945.
