Nancy Tyagi made headlines again with her second red carpet appearance at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. Known for designing her own outfits, the fashion influencer stunned in a beige corset dress and flowing cape. On May 18, she took to Instagram to post images of the look, claiming it took her a whole month to create and that she “kept working on it till the last minute.” But not everyone is convinced—especially singer Neha Bhasin and a fashion boutique called The Source Bombay.
From Red Carpet Applause to Public Accusations
Just hours after Nancy’s post went viral, Neha Bhasin took to Instagram Stories to call out the fashion influencer. Neha shared a side-by-side collage of her own older outfit, which looked strikingly similar to Nancy’s Cannes dress. “This corset looks too familiar,” she wrote, hinting that Nancy’s outfit might not be as original as it seemed. She ended the post with a direct caption: “Same Same.”
But Neha didn’t stop there. She followed up with a post revealing the origin of the outfit, claiming it came from a boutique in Bandra, Mumbai—The Source Bombay. Tagging the store and sharing a snap of a similar piece, she wrote, “I rest my case.”
The Store Speaks Out
Soon after, The Free Press Journal contacted Surbhi Gupta, the founder and stylist behind The Source Bombay. In a candid interview, Surbhi confirmed that Nancy had purchased the dress for ₹25,000 before leaving for Cannes. “She’s free to do what she wants with it,” Surbhi said. “But it is our design. She did not stitch it herself.”
Surbhi did clarify that while the dress came from their store, the cape worn over it wasn’t part of their design. “That cape looks like something she’s made herself, I guess,” she added.
A Fashion Icon or a Fabrication?
This unexpected controversy has divided the internet. On one hand, Nancy has built a loyal following for her DIY couture. Her Cannes debut last year was celebrated because she hand-stitched a voluminous pink gown herself, earning widespread praise for her creativity and hard work.
But this time, her claims are being questioned. While Nancy continues to receive support from fans who admire her sense of style and ambition, others are beginning to question the authenticity of her fashion storytelling.
In an age of fast fame and content-first narratives, this episode is a reminder of how important transparency is—especially when you’re celebrated for being self-made.

Regardless of who stitched the dress, there’s no denying that Nancy Tyagi knows how to turn heads. Her outfit was stunning, her styling was on point, and her confidence radiated through the screen. But as fashion evolves in the social media age, perhaps it’s time to give credit where it’s truly due—and be honest about the story behind the seams.
