What profession were you in before you started creating content, and when did you decide to take the plunge?
I was a writer and a styling intern for a website called iDiva. During my time there, I started making videos. Some of my videos went viral, and that’s when I decided it was time to take content creation more seriously because people were loving it, and I was thoroughly enjoying it. That’s when I decided to take the plunge.
When you started content creation, did you ever think you’d grow so much?
No, it happened so accidentally for me. I did have a fashion blog when I was in college, and I used to write that blog twice a week. I also had a YouTube channel where I would do hauls and everything. So, I think there was always an inclination toward being in front of the camera, but I never thought it would happen the way it did, especially with comedy.
Any tips for budding creators? How is it different now than it was when you first started?
My tip would be to just keep going for it. Content creation can be really tiring and exhausting sometimes, especially when you compare yourself to your peers and don’t get enough views. When we first started, we didn’t even know how to explain our jobs to people, but now content creation is something everybody knows about.
How cluttered is your space and what do you do to stand out?
It is quite cluttered. I think comedy and entertainment are things everybody likes to watch and perform. I won’t say it’s easy, but it’s definitely fun. I think it’s very important to feel like an individual and make sure you come across as a unique voice, whether it’s through your writing, performance, video treatment, editing style, or anything else.
Any crazy fan stories?
I went for a routine breast examination with a gynecologist, and she wasn’t a regular doctor I meet often. It was after the pandemic, and many people were still wearing masks. During my examination, she recognized me and said, “Oh, aren’t you that South Delhi girl?” while I was in a vulnerable position.
Tell us about a brand you really enjoyed creating content for.
There are a lot of brands I have loved working with, but Colgate, Olay, and Nykaa are the ones I’ve enjoyed the most.
You can’t take long breaks from the internet, and no matter how you feel, you have to show up regularly. Do you sometimes feel under pressure to be consistent and post content regularly?
The internet makes you feel that consistency is the key, and that’s the way to go, but it’s also not the end of the world. I’ve done this for years and feel that there is a way to take breaks. Taking breaks and avoiding burnout is extremely important as they help you bring new ideas to life, which can be hard to do on a day-to-day basis.
What was the defining moment for you?
Whether it was working with Colgate, collaborating with Bollywood stars, or making it big on the internet, all of these have been defining moments.
How is content creation different from other professions? What are the perks and challenges?
I don’t think I’m the right person to talk about this, considering I’ve only had a few jobs before this, mostly part-time, and then the one full-time job that I turned into content creation anyway. However, it’s just as exhausting sometimes as other professions.
Tell us about the ups and downs you’ve experienced before you got this far.
The biggest downer is feeling saturated and having no ideas. When a creativity block or writer’s block hits, you feel exhausted and like you’ve done too much already, and nothing new comes to you. Those periods can be taxing and heartbreaking. The ups are having a big following, the love from people, meeting people, and hearing how much they adore you or your work.
Who are your favorite content creators and who do you wish to collaborate with?
I genuinely love many content creators, including Dharna.
Which is your most viral reel ? How long did it take you to create it, and did you anticipate its success? Reel Link
One of my most viral reels is one I made on breakups in an Indian household. I shot it in an hour and a half on my phone, just by myself, and I never anticipated it would become as viral as it did.
What’s next for you?
Instagram is going well. I’ve created a mini-series on Instagram that’s the first of its kind. Apart from that, I’m writing a lot of content, and acting auditions are happening.
