What profession were you in before you started creating content, and when did you decide to take the plunge?
I initially pursued a very different path. After finishing school, I went on to study B.Tech, thinking I’d become an engineer. For a while, I even considered architecture. Even while I was deep into my engineering studies, I always had a fascination for makeup and beauty, though I never thought to turn that passion into a career. YouTube was just emerging, and content creation wasn’t as big as it is now. During my graduation, I decided to experiment a little and began creating videos. It started as a hobby, with no intention of changing my career path. But one thing led to another, and here we are today!
When you started content creation, did you ever think you’d grow so much?
I began creating content around 2018, still in the middle of my graduation. At that time, I didn’t have any long-term plans for it. It was more something I did alongside my studies, thinking I might pursue a full-time career later. I never anticipated it turning into something so big or imagined reaching the level of recognition I have today. It’s been a completely unexpected and rewarding journey!
Any tips for budding creators? How is it different now than it was when you first started?
My biggest tip: if you have an idea, just go for it. Don’t wait for the perfect moment or the best equipment. When I first began, there were fewer beauty and fashion creators compared to now. Content creation really took off during COVID, when people had more time to explore new things. My advice is to begin with what you have and let your content evolve along the way. You don’t need fancy tools or a big team from day one. Start small, learn as you go, and stay open to adjusting your approach based on what resonates with your audience.
How cluttered is your space and what do you do to stand out?
The beauty and fashion industry is quite crowded today, with many creators making their mark. What sets me apart is my willingness to adapt and evolve my content. I began as a beauty creator, but over time, I’ve diversified. I don’t just stick to makeup videos; I also create lifestyle, fashion, and other content that resonates with both me and my audience. This versatility helps me stand out in a saturated space and keeps my content fresh and engaging.
Any crazy fan stories?
One of the craziest experiences I had this year was attending YouTube Fan Fest for the first time. I was overwhelmed and overjoyed to see so many people who knew me! Meeting fans who came just to see me, from different age groups, really made me realize how connected we are. It’s an experience I’ll never forget, and I’m so grateful for it all!
Tell us about a brand you really enjoyed creating content for.
I don’t have any one brand in mind, but I love working with brands that allow true creative freedom. Working with brands that align with my mindset, believe in me, and understand my creative style is always rewarding. I always follow guidelines, but at the end of the day, it’s important to stay authentic. It should be Himadri being Himadri.
You can’t take long breaks from the internet, and no matter how you feel, you have to show up regularly. Do you sometimes feel under pressure to be consistent and post content regularly?
Absolutely! Sometimes, all of it can get overwhelming, especially when I’m running low on content ideas or haven’t posted in a while. It creates this nagging feeling that I’m not doing enough for my audience, and that feeling is pretty intense. Sometimes, I even feel a bit helpless. But over time, I’ve learned to shake off that negativity and return to what I genuinely love—creating content. When things get tough, I remind myself to rise up and dive back into the creative process.
What was the defining moment for you?
After creating content for a while, I wanted to connect with my audience on a deeper level, which led me to launch my brand, Dri by Himadri. The love and support from my audience were incredible. Knowing they were proud of me was truly heartwarming and motivated me to continue this journey. That overwhelming support when my audience celebrated my brand was definitely a defining moment for me.
How is content creation different from other professions? What are the perks and challenges?
Content creation is anything but monotonous! I get to experiment and explore my creativity without restrictions. Working with a variety of brands and people keeps things exciting. However, one major challenge is balancing my personal and professional life, as I’m always online. Finding time for myself between the hustle is tough, but it’s necessary.
Tell us about the ups and downs you’ve experienced before you got this far.
One of the biggest ups for me has been achieving dreams I’ve held since childhood. I was able to buy my first car and finally purchase a house after years of hard work. Providing for my family has been incredibly fulfilling. On the downside, dealing with creative blocks is frustrating, especially in a smaller city like Dehradun, where resources are limited. Finding professionals to work with is a challenge, and traveling for events can be tough since most are in bigger cities. Despite these challenges, I’ve had amazing highs, like winning Best Emerging Lifestyle Content Creator of the Year and seeing a billboard of me in Mumbai for a campaign with Spoyl.
Which is your most viral reel? How long did it take you to create it, and did you anticipate its success? Reel Link
My most viral reel is the “Girl Math” video. It was a simple and relatable concept that resonated with a lot of my female audience. I never expected it to go viral! The creation process didn’t take long because I hadn’t anticipated it would get so much attention. Sometimes, it’s the most unexpected content that connects the most!
Who are your favorite content creators and who do you wish to collaborate with?
My top favorite creator is Naomi Jon. Her content, especially her mukbangs, always brightens my day. I’d be thrilled to collaborate with her! Another creator I admire is Sambhavna Seth; her relatable vlogs are so genuine. Collaborating with both Naomi and Sambhavna would be a dream come true!
What’s next for you?
My next big goal, which my OG followers already know about, is to open an animal shelter for voiceless beings who need love and care. I’ve achieved some of my dreams, but this one holds a special place in my heart. Creating a safe haven for animals is my next dream, and I can’t wait to make it a reality!
