What profession were you in before you started creating content, and when did you decide to take the plunge?
Before I ventured into content creation, I was a radio jockey. My role came with specific key responsibility areas (KRAs), one of which required me to make my social media page public. During this time, one of my videos unexpectedly went viral, marking the beginning of my journey as a content creator.
When you started content creation, did you ever think you’d grow so much?
To be honest, I didn’t envision such growth at the outset. Initially, I was hesitant about publicising my page, but due to the requirements of my KRA, I had no choice. It felt surreal once I started gaining recognition, I even started dreaming of an Oscar!
Any tips for budding creators? How is it different now than it was when you first started?
My advice for aspiring content creators is to stay consistent and not overlook the importance of education. Knowledge will always enrich your content and help you provide greater value to your audience. The landscape has definitely evolved since I began; it’s more competitive now, and creators need to adapt to rapidly changing trends while staying true to their unique voices.
How cluttered is your space and what do you do to stand out?
The creator industry is incredibly saturated—it seems like everyone is a content creator! To truly stand out, authenticity is key. For instance, I carve my niche as the only female creator focusing on organic pranks, which sets me apart in this crowded field.
Any crazy fan stories?
I recently had a super wild experience involving a fan. I posted a story while I was on my balcony, and somehow, a guy managed to track down my building. He repeatedly asked the guard for entry and, after a few hours of trying, he even jumped over the boundary wall to get inside. He was tanding out for good 7-8 years. The guards ended up calling the police! It turned out he had brought sweets and snacks—laddoos and chilli-chatka kurkure—because I had mentioned my fondness for them in a post. While his gesture was kind, the whole ordeal was definitely unnerving.
Tell us about a brand you really enjoyed creating content for.
One brand I enjoyed creating content for is TATA because I am a hardcore Ratan Tata fan and someone I idolize fully. A businessman like Ratan Tata – has never come and will never come for sure. The way Ratan Tata operates – his ethics, culture and everything is something I am super fond of. He is truly an inspiration to many – including me.
You can’t take long breaks from the internet, and no matter how you feel, you have to show up regularly. Do you sometimes feel under pressure to be consistent and post content regularly?
Yes, at some point, all content creators feel pressured to create content every day and post something. But honestly, I don’t scroll reels that much as I want to create very organic content and make sure that the trends don’t influence me or pressurize me to create something which is not me, and that’s why I’m not aware of trends.
What was the defining moment for you?
Getting a lead role as an actor on an Amazon MiniTV web show is a defining moment for me. It truly made me feel as If all the hard work I have put in till date has actually led me here – and that was my defining moment!
ow is content creation different from other professions? What are the perks and challenges?
Content creation is very different from other professions. Here, you get immediate feedback from the audience, so you have to be real.
It has a lot of challenges. You constantly have to work on new ideas, new scripts and have to shoot something almost every day – so you are your own writer and director here.
About perks – you make good money by doing brand promotions and collaborations, PR packages and exposure.
Another challenge would be that you can get trolled anytime – most of the times when you are not expecting it, you are fully out there, your audience is well resonated with you which somehow makes it difficult to enter acting – as your audience has already adapted to your entire persona.
Tell us about the ups and downs you’ve experienced before you got this far.
I was heavily trolled on Twitter under the hashtag #boycottrjmahvash due to a prank that unintentionally offended people. It became quite a big controversy, with calls for Radio Mirchi to suspend me. Thankfully, the backlash eventually subsided, but that experience was one of the toughest periods in my journey.
One of my prank videos skyrocketed to over 200 million views! Ironically, it was one of the most effortless videos I’ve ever made and I made that video in hardly 10-15 minutes, and I certainly didn’t expect it to blow up like that. My video was one of the top 10 videos to cross that benchmark.
Who are your favorite content creators and who do you wish to collaborate with?
My favourite content creator has to be Rakhi Sawant, she’s the OG creator and I would like to collaborate with her. She is always doing something new and I really love her! Make it happen, make this reach her :p
What’s next for you?
So, next for me is a web show for Amazon MiniTV that I’m currently shooting for, and a couple of movies that I am producing are about to go on floor. ‘Section 108’ is set to release in November. I have another acting project which is lined up – I will talk about it soon!
